Balò English School
An important project to provide everyone with the "tools" to build their own future.
Balò founded the ‘Balò English School’.
The school consists of 2 kindergarten classes, 5 primary school classes, and 7 secondary school classes. A significant project, giving girls and boys who would never have had the chance to study all the 'tools' to build their future.
Our school runs from kindergarten to graduation. Carefully selected and trained teachers hold classes every day, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm. On Saturdays, extracurricular activities such as sports and spoken English are organised. Every day, the children eat meals prepared in the school kitchen. There are more than 400 children and young people attending the school in Balò and the number is increasing every year. Not only focused on academic education but also on life skills: gender equality is taught from kindergarten, along with civic education and respect for the environment.
Teaching slum children to speak English – this is the little challenge that Balò has set for itself. Knowing English in India is the only way to improve one’s living conditions, not to do back-breaking and badly paid jobs, not to face hunger every day. This is why Balò has opted for this educational strategy for the children. This challenge is important not only because in most cases these children are first generation learners in their families - where the parents are completely illiterate - but also because the parents speak with their children in local dialects. For this reason, parents are constantly reminded of the importance of their children’s education and are encouraged to send them to school every day. Children with learning difficulties are mentored after school by a teacher who provides them the support they need in every subject.
